Zwei museale Wachsporträts der Spätrenaissance

Wachs. Farbige, aus Wachs modellierte Hochreliefs vor gemaltem Grund, auf einer dünnen Schieferplatte, mit kleinen Perlen und anderen Materialien. Halbfigur eines Feldherrn in verziertem Harnisch und Mantel, unten das Schriftband „B. M. P. Gio Tomaso Blank 1594“. Als Gegenstück seine Gattin im dunklen verschnürten Kleid mit Halskrause und rot gemustertem Mantel, darunter Adler und Wappen. Im Hintergrund jeweils ein Vorhang mit Landschaftsausblick. Vergoldete, geschnitzte Barock-Kastenrahmen, verglast.

Two Late Renaissance wax portraits of museum quality
28 x 23 cm.
Probably Northern Italy, dated 1594.

Wax. Coloured high reliefs modelled from wax against a painted background, laid on thin slate slab and embellished with small pearls and various other materials. Carved and gilded Baroque box frame with glass.
