Anmerkung:
Besonders gut vergleichen lässt sich die Maria-Christus-Gruppe am Epitaaf Soeten Naem in der Sint Pauluskerk in Antwerpen, wobei beide Figuren dort stehen, was dem weiter unten liegenden Betrachterstandpunkt geschuldet ist. In Verbindung mit dieser Skulpturengruppe aber wohl auch mit dem hier angebotenen Werk ist eine Zeichnung zu sehen (352 x 209 mm), die am 13. Dezember 1973 unter Lot 82 bei Sotheby's, London, versteigert wurde und sich bis dato in der Sammlung Earl Beauchamp befunden hatte (siehe Vergleichsabb.). Während auch unsere Madonna sitzt und ihren Rock schürzt und ihren Umhang über die linke Schulter gleiten lässt, sind sowohl Maria als auch Jesus bei uns nach rechts gewandt statt nach links wie auf der Zeichnung, sodass vielleicht eine veränderte Aufstellung der Skulptur angenommen werden kann. Eine weitere Hand aus der Hand des Quellinus aus Terrakotta wird in der dänischen Nationalgalerie statens Museum for Kunst in Kopenhagen verwahrt. Besch.

The Madonna and Child group on the Epitaaf Soeten Naem in the Sint Pauluskerk in Antwerp compares particularly well, with both figures standing there due to the lower position of the viewer. Connected with those sculptures, but probably also with the work offered in this lot is a drawing (352 x 209 mm) that sold at auction on 13 December 1973, lot 82 at Sotheby’s, London and had been held at the Earl Beauchamp collection up to that point (see illustration for comparison).
