Auf der ruhigen Wasserfläche des Sees das mit Heu schwer beladene Boot mit Ruderern und einem Beiboot, dem ein weiteres Heuboot folgt. Im Hintergrund rechts die Fraueninsel vor Alpenkulisse. Der Künstler war ein österreichischer Landschaftsmaler und Vertreter der Münchener Schule. Da er für seine Gemälde häufig Motive aus dem Chiemgau benutzte, wird er auch als Chiemseemaler bezeichnet.
