Der Reiter in grauem Mantel, Reiterhose, Stiefeln und schwarzem Hut auf einem grauen Ross dargestellt, in einer undefinierten steinigen Landschaft vor dunkelgrünen Bäumen und Fels, im Hintergrund wird ein See oder Fluss sichtbar. Taylor zog 1971 eine starke Ähnlichkeit des Reiters mit George Stubbs selbst in Betracht, insbesondere im Vergleich mit der Emailmalerei "Self Portrait on a Grey Hunter" aus dem Jahr 1782.
