Stimmungsvolle Wiedergabe eines sonnenverwöhnten Winternachmittags mit leicht aus dem Zentrum gerückter Burgruine, angrenzenden entlaubten Bäumen und daneben liegendem gefrorenen Gewässer, auf dem zahlreiche Figuren die Sonnenstunden ausnutzen.
Vester war Lehrling von Jan Jacob Spohler (1811 – 1866/79) und malte hauptsächlich romantische Sommer- und Winterlandschaften. Über fünfzig Jahre lang, von 1841 bis 1895, nahm er an der jährlichen Ausstellung lebender Meister teil.
