Das en buste geschaffene Portrait weist durchaus die hohe Qualität des hier anzunehmenden Meisters auf. Der Künstlername ist auch auf der Rückseite in Blei vermerkt, daneben ein Lacksiegel mit Krone und der Sammlungsbezeichnung „Coll. per S. Severy – Salon“.
Eine sehr vergleichbare Portraitstudie wurde 2022 bei Drouot-Paris angeboten. Alternativ wurde auch die Schülerin Jeanne Philiberte Ledoux (1767–1840) genannt, was jedoch wenig überzeugt, da ihre Bildnisse fast ausschließlich die liebliche Charakteristik des Lehrers verfolgt hat. (1460052) (11)
