In typischem flotten Pinselduktus zeigt Maris eines seiner Lieblingsmotive. Neben sommerlichen Dünen und Polderlandschaften malte er auch Hafenbecken in pastosem Duktus. Gemeint ist vermutlich der Hafen von Delft, wie auch bei einem Gemälde, welches am 15. November 2011 bei Christie’s Amsterdam unter Lot 49 angeboten wurde, und dem vorliegenden Gemälde in Pinselduktus und Farbgebung gleicht.
Jakob Maris war ein niederländischer Maler, welcher den Impressionismus der Haager Schule vertrat. Seine Werke befinden sich vor allem im Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Dordrechts Museum in Dordrecht sowie wie in der National Gallery in London. (1222168) (13)

Maris is showing one of his favourite motifs painted in typical quick brush strokes. It probably depicts the harbour of Delft just like a painting sold at Christie’s, Amsterdam on 15 November 2011 (lot 49).
