Der Mönch, nachdenklich, an einem Tisch mit Buch, Schädel und Kreuz. Im Dunkel sind ein Bücherbord, Holzkörbe sowie eine nach oben führende Treppe zu erkennen. Das Gemälde lässt sich in eine Reihe von Dous Einsiedlermotiven einordnen. Auch die Stimmung des von einer Öllampe beleuchteten Raumes oder die Rundbögen sind Merkmale seiner Bildauffassung. A.R.
