Fritz Winter gehörte zu den Vorreitern der Abstraktion. Er studierte am Bauhaus, war Gründungsmitglied der Künstlergruppe ZEN 49 und zählte zu den Protagonisten des künstlerischen Siebdrucks in Deutschland. Aus seinen frühen Bauhausarbeiten heraus entwickelte er eine eigene Formensprache, die ihm eine besondere Stellung neben dem Informell zuweist.
