Stademann, der bei Carl August Lebschée (1800 – 1877) und Moritz Eduard Lotze (1809 – 1890) studierte, fertigte diese herrlich stimmungsvolle Winterlandschaft, die keinen Zweifel an den möglichen Freuden dieser unwirtlichen Jahreszeit aufkommen lässt: zahlreiche fröhliche Figuren sind auf dem gefrorenen Gewässer zu sehen, das von Häusern und, weiter hinten, von einer Windmühle flankiert wird.
