In der für den Künstler typischen Kerzenlichtstimmung wiedergebenen Szenerie mit einem jungen Mädchen, das bei Petroleumlicht einen Liebesbrief liest, während ein weiteres Mädchen hinter ihrem Rücken in den Spiegel blickt, wohl um hinter das Geheimnis des Briefes zu kommen. Der Hintergrund zieht ins Dunkel, an der Rückwand ist eine Holzbrüstung zu erkennen mit einer darauf stehenden Chinoiserie-Vase, im Vordergrund ein Nähkorb mit Flickzeug.(831601)
