Der Dargestellte in Uniform mit mehreren Ordensspangen und Armbinde vor blau-grauem, firmamentartigem Hintergrund. Stark farbige, für die Entstehungszeit äußerst moderne und mutige Portraitauffassung. Das Gemälde, 1916 entstanden als ein Dokument aus der Zeit des Ersten Weltkrieges, ist ein Beispiel der frühen Werke des Kees van Dongen, die während seiner frühen Phase in Paris auf dem Montparnasse entstanden. Mehrere dieser frühen Werke sind mit der Signaturbezeichnung „le Peintre" versehen.

Named at the lower left "le Peintre".

The portrait was painted in 1916 as a document of the First World War and is an example for the early works of Kees van Dongen, which were made in his days in Paris on Montparnasse. Several of these early works are named with "le Peintre".

The work will be included in an upcoming catalogue raisonné of the Wildenstein-Institute under the number "3.06.16.1662.421".
