Kalligraphisch anmutendens weißes Linienwerk vor blass grau-violettem Hintergrund. Mathieu ist einer der Hauptvertreter des Tachismus, seine Bilder sind meist ungegenständliche, von der Schnelligkeit des Malvorgangs bestimmte Kompositionen. Sein kalligraphischer Stil wird mit Meditation, Konzentration, Improvisation und Geschwindigkeit assoziiert.
