Provenienz:
Privatsammlung.
Anmerkung:

Notes :
In 1867 Parisian jeweller Gustave Baugrand (1827-1890) exhibited a whole showcase of Egyptian Revival style objects and jewellery at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. This particular style is a sign of the historic interest of the time, which arose due to the discovery and deciphering of hieroglyphs of the Rosetta stone by Jean-François Champollion (1790-1832). This enthusiasm can be traced through French Revolutionary architecture, which sadly hardly survives, to Napoleon’s Campaign in Egypt and to the popularity of many interchangeable exotic elements such as Egyptian décor during the course of the 19th century.
Literature:
Compare J. Mesnard, Les merveilles des expositions universelles, Paris 1867.
Compare L’art en France sous le Second Empire, Grand Palais 11 May - 13 August 1979.
