Dichte wie auch detailreiche Komposition des bekannten österreichischen Malers. Inmitten einer Waldlichtung sitzt Orpheus auf einer Grasnabe leicht erhöht von seinem roten Gewand umweht und so malerisch die bewegten Töne darstellend, welche mit Lyra und Gesang von ihm ausgehen. Die Lyra hatte Orpheus einst von Apollon, dem Gott der Musik, geschenkt bekommen, welcher diese wiederum einst von Hermes bekam. Es wird berichtet, dass sich während seines Spiels die Bäume zu ihm neigten, die wilden Tiere friedlich um ihn scharten und selbst die Felsen weinten. 1740 wurde Janneck Mitglied der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien und war spezialisiert auf kleinformatige Gemäldes unterschiedlicher Genre. Hier liegt vermutlich eine Zusammenarbeit mit Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton (1668-1754) vor, welcher auf Stillleben und Tierstücke spezialisiert war und mit seinem Bruder Philipp Ferdinand de Hamilton (1664-1750)und Johann Georg de Hamilton (1672-1737) zusammen arbeitete. Als Vergleich mag eine signierte Zeichnung von Carl Wilhelm dienen, welche sich im British Museum befindet (inv. no. 1957.0911.2), welche ebenfalls Orpheus als zentrale Figur mit ihn umfangenden Tieren darstellt (siehe Abbildung). Dense and detailed composition by the famous Austrian painter. The painting on offer for sale in this lot is probably a collaboration with
Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton, who specialized in still lifes and animal paintings and collaborated with this brother Philipp Ferdinand de Hamilton and Johann Georg de Hamilton.

A comparative example may be a signed drawing by Carl Wilhelm held at the British Museum (inv. no. 1957.0911.2), which also depicts Orpheus as a central figure surrounded by animals (see illustration). (†)
