Die Zuschreibung an den genannten Maler wird vor allem dadurch erschwert, dass sowohl in Bildauffassung als auch im Malstil auch der Kollege und in Rom tätige Pierino del Vaga (1501-1547) genannt werden kann, wobei beide Künstler in der engen Stilnachfolge des Raphael (1483-1520) stehen. Jedoch weist die etwas härtere Zeichnung und kontrastreichere Farbgebung eher auf da Imola hin, einem Schüler des Francesco Raibolini Francia (um 1450-1517), der später im Atelier von Mariotto Albertinelli (1474-1515) gewirkt hat und erstaunliche Kopien nach Raphael schuf. Gezeigt ist die Heilige Familie – wie üblich Madonna mit dem Kind im Zentrum der Darstellung sitzend – in einem Innenraum vor grünem Vorhang und einem offenen Fenster mit Ausblick in die Landschaft links oben. Im Hintergrund rechts die Figur des Heiligen Josef, der auf das Kind blickt, das sich in aufgerichteter Haltung an die Brust der Mutter schmiegt. Das Gesicht Mariens nachdenklich, das des Kindes eher lächelnd. Die gesenkte linke Hand der Mutter hält ein offenes Buch mit aufgeschlagenen Seiten. Dies ist ein wohl deutlicher Hinweis, dass Maria im Text der Propheten gelesen hat und nun in schweren Gedanken über das künftige Schicksal Jesu wiedergegeben ist.
Auch weitere bedeutende Werke da Imolas sind nicht sämtlich signiert und teilweise Zuschreibungen, die sich auch in bedeutenden Sammlungen befinden.

The attribution to the aforementioned master is particularly difficult because the image concept and style would also suggest his colleague Pierino del Vaga (1501-1547), who was active in Rome, although both artists are close stylistic followers of Raphael (1483-1520). The harder drawing style and contrasting colouration would rather suggest da Imola, a student of Francesco Raibolini Francia (ca. 1450-1517), who was later active in the workshop of Mariotto Albertinelli (1474-1515) and created magnificent copies after Raphael.
