Zwei junge Männer umwerben eine junge Dame in einem Park am Fuße einer Amphorenvase. Diese galante Szene ist mit erotischen Symbolen konnotiert, wie etwa die von Amor ins Herz der jungen Frau abgeschossenen Pfeile oder auch die zentrale Amphorenvase, welche als phallische Symmetrieachse die Szene dominiert. Die Darstellung intimer Szenen wie dieser war für Privatgemächer gedacht und in der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts beim König und dem französischen Adel sehr beliebt. Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732 - 1806) wurde im Atelier von François Boucher ausgebildet und ist ein hochbedeutender Maler des 18. Jahrhunderts.
