Dreiviertelbildnis eines nach rechts stehenden Jünglings, das Gesicht und den Blick dem Betrachter zugewandt, bekleidet mit grauer Weste und darüber gelegtem schwarzem Mantel sowie schwarzem Barett. In der rechten Hand hält er eine Nelke mit hohem Stil und roter Blüte, die linke Hand hat er an den Gürtel gelegt. Das Gemälde von hoher Ausdruckskraft, qualitätvoll gemalt und im Vergleich mit den Werken des genannten Künstlers durchaus dem Stil und der Qualität entsprechend. Der Maler war im Zeitalter des Manierismus in Florenz tätig, als Schüler von Andrea del Sarto (1486-1530) und Assistent von Pontormo (1494-1556) war er an den Freskenausmalungen 1536 in Careggi tätig. Von seiner Hand kennen wir drei Altarbilder, die 1540-1545 für die Kirche Santo Spirito in Florenz entstanden. In seinem Werk ist der Einfluss von Bronzino (1503-1572) deutlich spürbar. Am meisten haben ihn seine Portraits, die 1530-1540 entstanden, bekannt gemacht, darunter das Damenbild, das sich im Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza befindet.

YOUNG MAN WITH A CARNATION

Three-quarter length portrait of a standing young man facing the right with his face turned towards the viewer. He is dressed in a grey waistcoat, a black cloak and black beret. The painting is very expressive and of high quality.
Foschi was active in Florence during the Mannerist period, initially as a student of Andrea del Sarto (1486-1530) and then as an assistant of Pontormo with whom he collaborated on painting the frescoes in Careggi in 1536. It is known that he painted three altar paintings for the Santo Spirito Church in Florence in 1540 - 1545. He became famous for his portraits created 1530 - 1540 including Portrait of a Lady held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Madrid.
