Das hochrechteckige Gemälde mit oben abgerundetem Abschluss, die Heilige Jungfrau mit dem Kinde zeigend vor dunklem Hintergrund. Das vorliegende Gemälde reiht sich ein in das sehr kleine religiöse OEuvre des Künstlers, darunter auch ein Gemälde von 1890 im Musée d'Orsay sowie ein Christus an der Säule von 1901 mit unbekanntem Aufenthalt. Alle sonstigen Gemälde, welche von diesem Künstler bekannt sind, spiegeln das Pariser soziale Leben wieder, nicht aber religiöse Themen.

Signed and dated “1906” lower right, numbered on the frame “85” (was exhibited at the Salon of 1906).
Neo-Renaissance frame.
The top of this portrait format painting is rounded off and it shows the Virgin with the Child against a dark background. The depiction on offer in this lot is in line with the few religious paintings created by Béraud, which also include a painting held at the Musée d’Orsay and The Flagellation of Christ from 1901 (whereabouts unknown). All other paintings known by the artist portray the social life of Paris instead.
