James Brown,
geb. 1951 Los Angeles,
Lebt und arbeitet in Paris und Oaxaca, Mexiko. Brown studierte an der École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Auf Reisen durch Europa beschäftigte ihn vor allem die Kunst der Gotik und der Renaissance. 1983 stellte er mit Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960 – 1988) und Keith Haring (1958 – 1990) in der Shafrazi Gallery in New York aus. Seine gestischen abstrakten Werke zeigen Einflüsse regionaler Stammeskunst und der Klassischen Moderne.NEW YORK, 1986 Öl auf Leinwand.

James Brown,
born 1951 Los Angeles
Lives and works in Paris and Oaxaca, Mexico. Brown trained at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. During his travels through Europe he concerned himself predominantly with Gothic and Renaissance Art. In 1983 he exhibited alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) and Keith Haring (1958-1990) at the Shafrazi Gallery in New York. His gestural, abstract works show influences of regional tribal art and Classical Modernism.
