1657 Utrecht - 1701 Amsterdam
LANDSCAPE WITH RUINS, FIGURES AND BOATS IN A BAY
Oil on canvas. Relined.
80 x 102 cm.
Accompanied by an expert’s report by Professor Ferdinando Arisi.
Jacob de Heusch travelled to Rome from his hometown Utrecht in 1674. Some of the figures in this painting can also be found in other works by the artist, such as the woman with the child in the foreground which is similar to the woman on a horse in a Lazio Landscape (unknown; illustrated in A. Burisi Vici, Jacob de Heusch, Rome, 1997, no. 22, p. 65 and p. 121, ill. 39) and a man with outstretched arms next to her who also appears in the painting Landscape with Waterfall, a signed work from 1693 (Ibid., no. 49, pp. 80, 81, 148, ill. 54).
