Majolika-Doppelhenkelvase mit Goldlüster

Doppelhenkel-Gefäß auf schlankem, gekehltem Rundfuß. Das birnenförmige Gefäß mit langem Hals und auskragender Lippe. Den Fuß zieren Ringe und ein Zackenmuster. Das untere Drittel des Gefäßes ist dekoriert mit einer aufgemalten und stilisierten Godronnierung, nach oben begrenzt von einem Schuppenkranz. Über Schulter und Hals ziehen Akanthusblattranken. Diese rahmen auch die Medaillonfelder zu beiden Seiten. Darin ist je eine Schnecke dargestellt. Bemalung in Blau und üppigem Goldlüster auf weißem Fond. Sockel und Front rest. Haarriss im Sockel, min. Abplatzungen.

Anmerkung:
Das alte Stadtwappen von Siena ziert eine Schnecke. Das Wappen der Familie Bullo zeigt ebenfalls eine goldene Schnecke auf blauem Grund.

Maiolica gold lustre two-handled vase
Height: 27.5 cm.
Width: 24.5 cm.
Depth: 20.5 cm.
Deruta, 16th century.

Vase with two handles on a narrow tapering foot. Pear-shaped vase with long neck and protruding rim. The foot is decorated with chevron-patterned bands. The lower third of the vase is decorated with painted stylised gadrooning, framed at the top by a fish scale wreath. Shoulder and neck decorated with acanthus ornaments, framing the two medallions on either side. Each medallion depicts a snail. Painted in blue with opulent gold lustre against a white ground. Foot and front restored. Hairline crack on base, minimal chips.

Notes:
The old city coat of arms of Siena features a snail. The arms of the Bullo family also feature a gold snail against a blue ground.
