Spätgotischer Majolika-Krug

Gotischer Henkelkrug mit birnenförmigem Gefäßkörper, sich leicht verengendem Hals und weich geformtem Ausguss. Breiter Henkel. Die einzelnen Krugelemente werden durch rahmende Linien akzentuiert. Die spätgotische Bemalung auf der Front mit der Darstellung eines Mischwesens mit Tierkörper und Menschenkopf, das durch eine Landschaft springt. Diese angedeutet durch gotisches Eichenlaub und eingestreute Kugeln gleich Nüssen. Etwas unterhalb des Ausgusses die Bemalung mit herunterreichenden Zapfen. Hinten eine reduzierte Gestaltung, der Henkel mit horizontal laufenden Linien, flankiert auf dem Korpus mit einer Bemalung in Wellenlinien. Auf weißem Fond Bemalung in Grün, Blau und dunklem Mangan. Bruchrest. mit dezenter Übermalung.

Late Gothic maiolica jug
Height: 25.5 cm.
Viterbo, beginning of the 15th century.

Gothic pear-shaped jug with a broad handle, slightly narrowed neck and wide spout. The jug is separated into sections by framing lines. The late Gothic painting on the front portrays a hybrid creature with an animal body and a human head leaping through a landscape. The landscape is abstractly implied by Gothic oak foliage with interspersed nut-shaped balls and painted hanging pine cones below the spout. The back of the jug is less elaborately decorated. The handle is painted with horizontal lines, the jug with wavy lines. Painted in green, blue and dark manganese on a white ground. Cracked and restored with subtle associated overpainting.
