Majolika-Krug aus der Manufaktur S. Fina

Krug mit ovaloidem Körper, weich geformtem Ausguss und breitem Henkel. Das gotische Dekor rahmt vorne ein Rundfeld, das von einem Strahlenkranz in dunkelblauem Rahmen umgeben ist. Im nahezu runden Feld stehen vor cremefarbenem Fond mit roten Tüpfeln die Buchstaben "ihs" für "Iesus Hominum Salvator" - Jesus, der Erlöser der Menschen. Den cremefarbenen Fond der Kanne zieren feine Blätter in Blau und Ocker. Abplatzungen am Fuß und in der Glasur, Bruchrest. oben.

Maiolica jug from the S. Fina workshop
Diameter: 12.5 cm.
Height: 19.5 cm.
Florence, circa 1480.

Ovoid jug with wide spout and broad handle. A circular medallion at the front is enclosed by an aureola on a dark blue frame, the remaining surface of the jug is decorated with Gothic ornaments. The letters 'ihs' (abbreviation for Iesus Hominum Salvator which translates to 'Jesus, saviour of men') are painted with little red dots on a crème ground. On a crème ground the remaining surface of the jug is painted with delicate leaves in blue and ochre. Chips on the foot and glaze chips; cracked and restored at the top.
