Marmorbüste eines Hermaphroditen mit den Zügen Alexanders des Großen

Mit französischem Antikenpass.

Büste aus feinkristallinem Marmor mit dem Gesicht eines jungen Mannes, das die Züge von Alexander dem Großen trägt. Das Haar in dicken Locken in der Mitte gescheitelt fällt über die Ohren und den Hinterkopf. Die Augen sanft und mandelförmig schauen aus dicken Lidern hervor. Der Mund fein geschwungen und geschlossen. Am Hals zwei horizontale Falten. Der Oberkörper mit seinen sanften Rundungen und weiblichen Brüsten weist die Büste als Hermaphrodit aus.

Hermaphroditos ist ein Jüngling, den Aphrodite dem Hermes geboren hatte. Durch Wirken der Götter wird sein Körper mit dem der Nymphe Salmakis verschmolzen. Die Darstellung des Hermaphroditos als Alexander lässt auf eine Werkstatt in Alexandria schließen, wo der Alexanderkult in römischer Zeit eine neue Blüte erlebte. Gesockelt. Nase leicht bestoßen, ein geschlossener Sprung über der linken Brust, ein weiterer von der linken Schulter zur rechten Brust. Einige kleine Bestoßungen ausgebessert, insgesamt jedoch in sehr gutem Zustand mit anmutigem Ausdruck.

Marble bust of a hermaphrodite with facial features of Alexander the Great

Bust of a young man in fine crystalline marble with the facial features of Alexander the Great. The torso with its soft curves and female breasts identifies the bust as a hermaphrodite. The depiction of this hermaphrodite as Alexander suggests a workshop in Alexandria, where the Ptolemaic Cult of Alexander the Great saw a revival during the Roman era.
On base. Nose slightly chipped, closed crack above the left breast and from the left shoulder to the right breast. Several small chips restored, however, in overall very good condition with charming expression.
