Bartholomeus Assteyn,
1607 Dordrecht - 1667
STILL LIFE WITH FLOWERS IN A CHINESE VASE
Oil on panel.
88 x 62 cm.
Monogrammed and dated on the plinth “1645”.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity with image of the painting by Sam Segal, who viewed the painting in Amsterdam in February 1990.
The magnificent still life shows a large lush bouquet. The Dordrecht master has rendered the delicateness and the different surface structures and textures with great accuracy. The finely nuanced colouration gives the bouquet great three-dimensionality.
Notes:
A similar, however unsigned, still life is held at the Norton Simon Art Foundation (here attributed to Ambrosius Bosschaert).
This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
