Drei Frauenakte aus dem Gefolge der Jagdgöttin Diana werden im Schlaf von zwei Satyrn überrascht. Die Mädchen auf Tüchern liegend, in denen die Farbtrias Blau, Rot und Weiß vorgeführt ist. Am Rasenboden im Vordergrund befinden sich zahlreiche erlegte Jagdtiere wie Wildschweine, Hasen, Vögel sowie ein Hirsch in der rechten unteren Ecke. Jagdhorn und Köcher sind an einen Felsblock gelehnt, rechts dahinter ein geflügelter Amorknabe, der mehrere Jagdhunde an der Leine hält. In der Ferne eine heller beleuchtete Waldschneise mit Wolkenstimmung im Spätlicht.
Das Thema wurde sowohl von Jan Brueghel dem Älteren als auch Jan Brueghel dem Jüngeren aufgenommen und in unterschiedlichen Variationen wiedergegeben. Das vorliegenden Gemälde ist der Expertise von Dr. Klaus Ertz zufolge um 1626 entstanden, kurz nachdem Jan der Jüngere die Werkstatt des Vaters übernommen hatte. Für die Ausführung der Figuren macht Ertz einen Maler der Rubens-Werkstatt aus.

An expert's report by Dr Klaus Ertz dated 25 August 2014 is enclosed. According to the expert's report by Dr Klaus Ertz the painting in hand was created around 1626, shortly after Jan the Younger took over the workshop of his father. Dr Ertz attributes the creation of the figures to a painter from the Rubens workshop.
