Blick vom Ufer über die Bucht hinweg in Richtung Vesuv, die Meeresoberfläche spiegelt den Glanz des Mondes wieder. Im Vordergrund befinden sich am Ufer anlegende Kähne sowie mehrere Fischer, Frauen und Kinder, die von dem nächtlichen Lagerfeuer beleuchtet werden. Das in lockerer Malweise vorgeführte Gemälde lebt aus der Spannung der unterschiedlichen Lichtverhältnisse, wie etwa des kühlen Mondlichtes auf der Wasseroberfläche, aber auch des warmen Feuerscheins, um den die Personen gruppiert sind. Dazwischen erscheint rechts im Wasser eine Leuchtboje. (950103)
