Mathieu gehört zu den Hauptvertretern des Tachismus. Angelehnt an die japanische Kalligraphie sind seine abstrakten Werke von der Schnelligkeit des Malvorgangs geprägt.

Links unten signiert und datiert "Mathieu 59".
Gerahmt.
Auf einer hellbraun grundierten Leinwand sind in der oberen Bildhälfte schwarze, mit breitem Pinsel aufgetragene Zeichen zu sehen, die an die asiatische Kalligraphie angelehnt sind. Über diesen liegen in pastosem Auftrag tiefrote und weiße, feine Zeichen. Farbspritzer lassen noch heute die Dynamik des Malvorgangs eindrucksvoll erkennen.

Beiliegend eine handschriftliche Authentifizierung des Künstlers.
