Rechts unten signiert "J v Ruisdael". Verso vier alte Aufkleber, drei davon bedruckt, jeweils mit Künstlernennung bzw. Titelbezeichnung "Paysage environ d'Harlem".
Ferner alter Galerieaufkleber "J.&A. Leroy Frere Bruxelles". Weiterhin Sammlungsaufkleber "Collection Jules et Jean Laliere à Naumur Nr. 32 de l'inventoire", jeweils mit Künstlerbezeichnung und Maßangaben.

Blick in eine hügelige Landschaft mit Felsgruppierungen, dahinter ein Bauer in rotem Wams mit breitem Hut und Stock, in Begleitung eines Hundes. Davor eine weitere Person, die einen Sack geschultert trägt. Dahinter zwischen Bäumen teils verdeckt ein Gebäude mit Fenstern. Nach rechts hin dicht bewachsene Anhöhe mit jungem Eichenbaum am rechten Bildrand, links dünenhaft anziehender Hügel mit Heidekraut. Im Vordergrund abgestorbene, dürre Baumstämme. Die Landschaft leicht verschattet, darüber heller Wolkenhimmel mit auffliegenden Vögeln.

Beiliegend eine Expertise von Dr. Jaco Rutgers, datiert 3. April 2012. Er datiert das vorliegende Werk von Jacob van Ruisdael auf ca. 1647 bis 1648.
