Joachim Wtewael,
1566 – 1631, circle of
Christ in Limbo
Oil on panel.
37 x 30 cm.

The Dürer monogram is painted on a painted wooden beam at the bottom left. Early 17th century. Oil painting after a graphic artwork by Albrecht Dürer (1471 - 1528).

Notes:
According to Dr Rainer Stüwe "due to the emphasized muscly constitution of the bodies and the softly shaped heads the origin of the painter can be narrowed down to the circle of the Dutch master painter Joachim Wtewael from the early 17th century".

This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
