Hohes Gefäß mit Deckel. Der Fuß mit breiter Kehlung, darüber Wulstring. Hoher Deckel mit leichter Kehle und Wulst, der Knauf in Zapfenform. Auf blauem Fond dunkelblaues Dekor mit Arabesken, die hinten zum Herz zusammenlaufen, in Berettino-Malerei sowie salomonische Knoten und darüber in Grün, Rot und Gelb ein Blattkranz mit Früchten. Dieser wiederholt sich auf dem prächtig gestalteten Deckel. Auf der Deckelinnenseite ein Cherubkopf. Bemalung in Dunkelblau, Hellblau, Weiß, Gelb und Rot. Die Kanten leicht berieben, ein Chip. Deckel mit Bruchrest.

Maiolica jar with lid
Height: 22 cm.
Diameter: 13 cm.
Faenza, Casa Pirota, 16th century.

Tall jar with lid. Concave foot with torus at the top, tall concave lid with torus and cone-shaped knob. Against a blue ground, ornamented with dark blue arabesques that intersect to form a heart on the back, painted in berettino style, as well as salomonic knots, followed further up by a foliage wreath with fruits in green, red and yellow. The wreath motif is repeated on the magnificently designed lid.The interior of the lid depicts a cherubim head. Painted in dark blue, light blue, white, yellow and red. Minor paint wear to the rims; one chip. Lid restored.
