Maiolica tondino, probably from the workshop of Maestro Giorgio Andreoli or 'Maestro D', Domenico di Tommaso
Diameter: 25.5 cm.
Gubbio, circa 1525 - 35.

This small plate depicts Cupid at its sunken centre. Its steep sides are decorated in red lustre. A broad border is decorated with paintings of floral masquerons and grotesques on a blue ground with a cherubim head at the bottom. It is decorated all around in rich red and gold lustre. On the baseplate 'D'. Small rim chips, minor paint wear to the rims at the front and back.

Notes:
For the hitherto unidentified 'D' on the back, Sannipoli suggests Maestro Domenico di Tommaso, an early associate of the Maestro Giorgio workshop.

Provenance:
Archer M. Huntigdon Collection (label on reverse).
