Giuliana Gardelli, "Italika. Maiolica Italiana del Rinascimento", Faenza, 1999, S. 97, Nr. 46. (930004)

Pair of maiolica albarelli
Height: 18.4 cm.
Diameter: 13.4 cm.
Faenza, 16th century.

Short foot and slightly tapering neck. The base and shoulder of both are decorated with abstract, geometrical patterns, which are framed by broad, dark blue bands. The body is decorated in berettino style with salomonic knots and flowers against the light blue ground and trios of little white dots. Each decorated with a medallion at the front, one featuring a hare, the other, a dolphin. Ornamented above the medallions with foliage wreathes with yellow fruits, alternating knot shapes and light floral festoons. Painted in dark blue, light blue, white, yellow, green and orange. Both cracked and restored.

Literature:
An albarello painted similarly, but of a more elongated shape, Giuliana Gardelli, Italika. maiolica Italiana del Rinascimento, Faenza, 1999, p. 97, no. 46.
