Verso alter Aufkleber mit Künstlerbezeichnung „Josef Stieler“ und Vermerk, dass sich das Gemälde bis 3.1.1910 im Berliner Stadtschloss befand, mit Katalognummer „772“. Rest des Inventaraufklebers am Keilrahmen noch erhalten.
Halbbildnis nach rechts, in Uniform, mit roter Schärpe, Ordensspange mit eisernem Kreuz etc., vor leicht grünlichem Hintergrund.

Friedrich Wilhelm IV. von Preussen, geboren 15.10.1795 Berlin, gestorben 2.1.1861 Potsdam, war zwischen 1840 und 1861 König von Preussen. Vielfach wurde er auch der „Romantiker auf dem Thron“ genannt, als Folge seiner Kunstliebe, jedoch war er ebenfalls bekannt für sein liberales Regieren. Er musste krankheitshalber die Regierung an seinen Bruder Wilhelm, den späteren Kaiser Wilhelm I., übergeben. (8420015)
