Die Ikone zeigt das traditionelle Bild des Osterthemas, den Abstieg des auferstandenen Christus zur Hölle, aus der er die Verstorbenen des Alten Bundes als erste erlöst. Christus erlöst zuerst Adam, rechts von ihm kniet Eva. Um ihn herum sind Salomon und David, Johannes, Moses rechts mit den Gesetzestafeln sowie weitere Heilige dargestellt.
