In der Mitte des Vordergrunds unterhalten sich zwei Reisende, von denen die Frau auf einem Esel sitzt, mit einem Mann, zu dessen Füßen ein Hund steht. Hinterfangen ist die Szene von einer Baumgruppe. Eingefangen ist diese Baumgruppe von zwei Wegen, auf denen weitere Männer mit Hunden dem dahinter liegenden Wald zustreben. Links im Bild, zwischen zwei Baumstämmen zieht sich ein Fluss vom Vordergrund in die Tiefe. In seinem Wasser spiegelt sich das Licht der untergehenden Sonne.
