Beigegeben Gutachten des Comité Edgar Degas, Paris, 28. Juli 2021.

(†) (13414530) (13)

SEQUENCE OF FIVE HORSES
Height max.: 62 cm.
Length max.: 42 cm.
Signed “Degas”, foundry mark “Guastini”. Numbered casts authorized by the Comité Edgar Degas.

Accompanied by an expert’s report by Comité Edgar Degas, Paris, 28 July 2021.

Bronze; cast and patinated. Little did the art world know when Edgar Degas died that, despite his great disappointment at the Salon des Indépendants, where his sculpture of the 14-year-old dancer had been heavily criticized, Degas had continued to work on his sculptures in his studio, and so his brother and his executor discovered 73 wax figures depicting dancers and horses. The casts offered here were made from these horses with the approval of the Comité Edgar Degas. (†)
