Horst Antes gehörte zu den Ersten der jüngeren Malergeneration, die das Informel und den Tachismus der 1940er-Jahre hinter sich ließen und eine neue figurative Bildsprache entwickelten. Die Erfindung des „Kopffüßlers“ wurde für Antes‘ Kunst zum Erkennungszeichen. Er studierte von 1957-1959 bei HAP Grieshaber (1909-1981) an der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Karslruhe. Dort war er schließlich seit 1967 Professor und leitete eine Malerklasse. Seit 1983 ist er zudem Mitglied der Freien Akademie der Künste in Hamburg. Er war zudem mehrfach Teilnehmer der documenta in Kassel. (1301173) (1) (18)
