Im Zentrum des Gemäldes eine prachtvolle beflaggte Fregatte mit geblähten Segeln und geöffneten Schiffsluken, hart gegen die hohen Wellen ankämpfend. Im Hintergrund rechts zwei weitere Schiffe, gegen den Wellengang ankämpfend, sichtbar. Linksseitig ragen einige Felsen in das Wasser. Malerei in überwiegend monochromer grau-brauner Farbigkeit, die kaum einen Übergang zwischen dem bewegten Meer und dem grau-braunen bedeckten Himmel erkennen lässt. Teils rest., Retuschen.
