A pair of eclectIc vases
Height: 78 cm.
Louis-Constant Sévin (1821-1888) and Maison Barbedienne (F. Barbedienne period, 1859-1892).
Paris, ca. 1870.
Bronze; cast, silvered and gilt. The vases were designed by Constant Sévin (1821-1888), the main designer at Barbedienne, whose identity is often overshadowed by the reputation of Barbedienne. He created works for the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace in 1851 and in 1862 he received a medal in London “for artistic excellence in furniture that he designed and which are exposed by Barbedienne”. In 1878 he was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris.
