Pierre-Auguste Renoir,
1841 Limoges – 1919 Cagnes

Das vorliegende Gemälde ist entstanden, noch bevor Renoir aufgrund seiner rheumatoiden Arthritis 1907 nach Les Collettes zog, einem Landhaus mit großem Garten in Cagnes-sur-Mer bei Nizza. In der Zeit um 1905 entstanden einige Portraits meist seiner Kinder und von Frauen, welche in geschwungenem Duktus mit locker verteilten sanften Farben oft als Brustportrait festgehalten wurden. (†)

Bedeutende Privatsammlung, Schweiz.

Anmerkung:
Im gleichen Jahr wie das von uns angebotene Gemälde entstand das etwas größere Werk „Claude Renoir jouant“, welches Renoirs dritten Sohn und späteren Kameramann Claude „Coco“ Renoir (1913-1993) darstellt, sich heute im Musée de l’Orangerie à Paris befindet und kompositionell im Hinblick mit Wendung der Person und Bildflächenaufteilung mit unserem Bild aufweist.

In the same year of the creation of the painting on offer for sale in this lot a slightly larger work titled “Claude Renoir jouant”, which depicts Renoir’s third son and later cameraman Claude “Coco” Renoir (1913-1993), today held at the Musée de l’Orangerie à Paris. Its composition with the turning of the person and proportioning is similar to our painting.
