Literatur:
Vgl. Rodolfo Pallucchini, La pittura nel Veneto. Il Settecento, Mailand 1996, S. 297, Abb. 449.

Anmerkung:
Als Vergleichsobjekt kann man auch die Bilderfindung Canalettos hinzuziehen, in der Sammlung Fitzwilliam Milton Park Peterborough, W.G. Constable Canaletto, Oxford 1962, Nr. 7. (1211941) (13)

Bernardo Canal,
1674 Venice - 1744
VEDUTA WITH SAINT MARK‘S SQUAREOil on canvas. Relined.
95 x 128 cm.
In gilt frame with acanthus leaf stucco.

A copy of the expert‘s report by Ugo Ruggeri, Venice, n.y. is enclosed, which clearly identifies the work as a painting by Bernardo Canal.
Ruggeri draws a parallel to the known painting held at the Salom collection, Venice, which is signed and dated „Bernardo Canal fecit 1534“ on the back and is thus the earliest recorded activity of Canaletto‘s father (1697 - 1768). Ruggieri dates the painting on offer for sale here to the 1730s, in Bernardo Canal‘s mature oeuvre.

Literature:
Compare: R. Pallucchini, La pittura nel Veneto. Il Settecento, Milan 1996, p. 297, ill. 449.

Notes:
As an example of comparison, see designs by Canaletto held at the Fitzwilliam Collection at Milton Hall, Peterborough, W.G. Constable Canaletto, Oxford 1962, no. 7.

This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
