Silber, getrieben, gegossen, ziseliert. Über quadratischem Stand der Korpus in Medici-Vasenform mit kannelierten Bandhenkeln und Weinlaubrelief. Schauseitiges Wappen von Braunschweig-Lüneburg mit der Devise „Honi soit qui mal y pense“, darunter auf geschwungenem Band die Devise „Nunquiam / retrorsum“. Ehemals im Besitz des Ernst August, Herzog von Cumberland und König von Hannover (1771-1851).

Provenienz:
Die Kühler waren vermutlich ein Geschenk von König Friedrich Wilhelm III an Ernst August, Herzog von Cumberland, zur Inthronisierung zum König von Hannover im Juni 1837. Ernst August war fünfter Sohn König Georgs III von Großbritannien, heiratete 1815 Friederike von Mecklenburg Strelitz, Schwester von Königin Luise von Preußen. (1211172) (13)

Height: 29 cm.
Total weight without insert: 3950 g.
Foot rim hallmarked with 15 lot (Scheffler 25a), Berlin city mark (Scheffler 14,18) and maker‘s mark Hossauer (Scheffler 381).
Berlin, ca. 1837 – 1840.

Silver; wrought, cast and chased. Square stand, body in the shape of Medici vases with grooved ribbon handles and vine leaf relief. Coat of arms of Braunschweig-Lüneburg and motto “Honi soit qui mal y pense” on the front, with a curved ribbon and motto “Nunquiam / retrorsum” underneath. Formerly owned by Ernst August, Duke of Cumberland and King of Hannover (1771-1851).

Provenance:
The cooler was probably a present by King Friedrich Wilhelm III to Ernst August, Duke of Cumberland, for his coronation as King of Hannover in June 1837.
