Sommerliche Stimmung innerhalb eines Gartens, welcher von dichtem Laubwerk verschattet ist. Eine Lichtung bietet jedoch Platz für Sonnenstrahlen, von denen diese intime Szene erhellt wird. Das weiße Inkarnat der jungen Mutter in zum Fassen realistisch wiedergegebenem, hellblauem Seidenkleid ist ebenso kontrastreich zum Hintergrund wiedergegeben wie das der Tochter, deren dunkles Kleid mit dem Dunkel der hinter ihr zu sehenden Brüstung verschwimmt. Boilly malte häufig solch intime Szenen mit einer oder zwei Personen und stets hat er meisterhaft die Materialität der Stoffe herausgearbeitet und wirkunsvoll gegeneinander abgesetzt; so etwa in einem Gemälde „La jarretière“, welches bei Richard Green in London zu sehen ist. Magnificent summery garden atmosphere, shadowed by dense foliage. A clearing makes room for some rays of sunshine illuminating this intimate scene. Boilly often painted such intimate scenes with one or two figures. He always brings out the texture of the different materials and effectively contrasts them, as for example in his painting La Jarretière held at Richard Green in London. (†)
