Von stark erhöhtem Standpunkt – dieser muss gedacht noch weit über dem Torre del‘Orologio liegen – blickt der Betrachter über die Basilica di San Marco, welche von links her beleuchtet wird, und den Markusplatz, welcher durch ein Theaterspiel bevölkert wird, auf den Campanile, der noch in seiner alten Form (brach 1902 in sich zusammen) dargestellt ist. Hinter der Basilika der Dogenpalast und abschließend der Canal Grande mit dahinterliegender Darstellung der Chiesa di San Giorgio Maggiore. Formal erinnert das vorliegende Gemälde an Arbeiten des Antonio Joli, welcher zahlreiche Veduten Venedigs schuf. Rest. (†) (12011821) (13)
