Maler im Freundeskreis von Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) und Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) sowie van Gogh (1853-1890).
Mit lockerem Pinselduktus hat Guillaumin – ein Jahr bevor er sich mit van Gogh anfreundete – die hügelige Landschaft von Chevreuse mit seinem verteilten Baumbestand und den daraus resultierenden Schatten eines Nachmittages wiedergegeben, im Mittelgrund führt ein verschlungener Weg gen Häuser, deren rote Dächer sich vor den Kornfeldern der rückwärtigen Hügel abzeichnen. Das Gemälde gehörte einst Georges Viau (Zahnarzt z.B. von Claude Monet), dessen Sammlung neben Gemälden von Guillaumin auch Werke von Boudin, Carrière, Cassatt, Cézanne, Dagnan-Bouveret, Daumier, Degas, Delacroix, Gauguin, Jongkind, Lebourg, Lépine, Manet, Monet, Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir and Sisley umfasste. Signed and dated “Guillaumin 85” lower right. Labels and inscriptions on the reverse.
Frame decorated with acanthus leaf and blossom.
The painting once belonged to Georges Viau (dentist of, for example Claude Monet), whose collection comprised works by Boudin, Carrière, Cassatt, Cézanne, Dagnan-Bouveret, Daumier, Degas, Delacroix, Gauguin, Jongkind, Lebourg, Lépine, Manet, Monet, Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir and Sisley apart from Guillaumin.
