Zusammen mit einer weiteren weiblichen Person pflegt die Heilige Irene, die eigentlich das Begräbnis Sebastians vorbereiten wollte, seine Wunden gesund. Kompositionell ist unser Gemälde sowohl hinsichtlich der Ausrichtung der Hauptfigur und der Nebenfiguren, als auch hinsichtlich der dargestellten Gefäße mit zwei Gemälden verwandt: Zum einen ein Gemälde, welches unter Francesco Furini, „Rachel giving Birth to Joseph“ am 28.04.2006 bei Christie´s London unter Los 28 verkauft worden ist, zum anderen mit einem Gemälde, welches als „Scena di martirio“ unter Los 352 bei Pandolfini in Florenz am 28.03.2006 verkauft worden ist.
