Seitlich angesetzte Leisten.

Provenienz:
Professor Umberto Bellotto, Venedig. Aus der Familie der Grafen Surian-Bellotto, welche den Palazzo Surian-Bellotto in Cannaregio, Venedig, besaßen.
Danach 1952 bei Duveen Brothers Inc. New York.

Expertisen:
Hermann Voss, Rom, 16. Oktober 1942.
Schriftliche Bestätigung von Duveen Antiques, New York, 15. Dezember 1952, darüber, dass dieses Gemälde "with certainty attributed to Bernardino Luini" ist. Damals war das Gemälde noch gerahmt.
Tullio L, Rom, 12. September 1968.
Prof. Giuseppe Maria PiIlo, Venedig, 4. März 2013.

Bernardino Luini,
ca. 1480/85 Runo – 1532 Milan, attributed
Master student of Leonardo da Vinci.

MARIA AND CHILD WITH SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST AND THE LAMB OF GOD

Oil on panel. Parquetted.
82 x 57.5 cm (without slats affixed to the sides).
Unframed.

The excellently preserved panel painting on offer for sale in this lot shows a sweeping mountainous landscape with architectural and figural staffage. Old retouching, crack in the paint layer lower right. Two slats have been attached to either side of the panel.

Provenance:
Professor Umberto Bellotto, Venice. From the family of Count Surian-Bellotto, who owned the Palazzo Surian-Bellotto in Cannaregio, Venice.
Thereafter sold in 1952 at Duveen Brothers Inc. New York.

Expert's reports:
Hermann Voss, Rome, 16 October 1942. The typed certificate is attached to the back of the panel. Voss states that the painting is without doubt an original by Luini, the great master who continued the style of Leonardo da Vinci in Lombardy. The shape of the eyes, the line of the noses, the small mouths, the arrangement of the folds and the natural behaviour between mother and child are suggestive of this. He also confirms the excellent quality and condition of the panel painting as well as confirming the provenance of the painting with the former ownership of Professor Umberto Bellotto.
Written confirmation by Duveen Antiques, New York, 15 December 1952, which describes the painting as "with certainty, attributed to Bernardino Luini". The painting was framed back then.
Tullio L, Rome, 12 September 1968.
Professor Giuseppe Maria Pilo, Venice, 4 March 2013.
