Seltene anmutige Schnitzfigur eines römisch gekleideten Knabens
Höhe: 74 cm.
Spanien, 17. Jahrhundert.
Der Knabe mit erhobenem Arm auf rundem Sockel im Kontrapost stehend. Das knielange Kleid sowie die Sandalen vergoldet. Laut Vorbesitzertradition als jugendlicher Heiliger Johannes gedeutet. Die rückwärts an den Schultern original vorhandenen Eisenhaken deuten jedoch darauf hin, dass ehemals Flügel angeheftet waren, welche den Knaben als Engel erscheinen lassen. (1120301) (5) (11)

Rare graceful carving of a boy in Roman attire
Height: 74 cm.
Spain, 17th century.
The boy with raised arms is standing in contrapposto on a round base. The knee-length dress and sandals are gilt. According to the tradition of the previous owners this is a depiction of the young Saint John. This should be rectified in as much as there appear to have been iron hooks at the back of the boy's shoulders, which would suggest it to have been an angel originally.
